History and Fun Facts about the Les Folies Gruss Marquee
Since 1868, the Gruss family has been shaping the world of equestrian and circus performance. It all began with Charles Gruss, a stonemason, and Maria Martinetti, from a family of riders and acrobats. Over time, equestrian passion became a family tradition, brought to its peak by Alexis Gruss, who founded the Cirque à l’Ancienne in 1974, making his name renowned worldwide. Today, under the Les Folies Gruss marquee, the family continues to live and work together, sharing with their audience an art born of rigorous training, faithful transmission, and a daily life built on solidarity, combining horses, performers, and powerful emotions. Each show is a sensory journey and a moment of genuine connection, where virtuosity meets poetry. Les Folies Gruss big top is also a place of engagement and generosity. Hosting charity galas and events with organisations such as Princess Margot, the Jérôme Lejeune Foundation, and Apprentis d’Auteuil, it embodies values of solidarity, family, and sharing, making every performance an unforgettable and unifying experience.
