The Salle Cortot in Paris is much more than just a concert hall. It is an altar to acoustics, a historic monument and a place steeped in history that has seen some of the greatest names in classical music pass through its doors.
Founded in 1919 by Alfred Cortot, the famous pianist and conductor, and Auguste Mangeot, the École Normale de Musique de Paris was established to train future talents in classical music. A few years later, in 1928, the architect Auguste Perret was commissioned to build a concert hall worthy of the name, and the Salle Cortot was born.
The Salle Cortot is truly a work of art. With typically Art Deco architecture, it is both elegant and functional. The hall has exceptional acoustics thanks to Auguste Perret’s design, which was intended to make the audience feel as though they were inside a musical instrument!. The combination of wood and concrete creates an atmosphere that is at once warm and intimate. Because of its highly original architecture, the Salle Cortot is listed as a ‘Historic Monument.’
Since its inauguration, the Salle Cortot has played host to some of the world's greatest musicians. Pablo Casals, Jacques Thibaud and Mstislav Rostropovitch, to name but a few, have graced its stage. All these artists have contributed to making the Salle Cortot one of the world's leading venues for classical music. Today, the hall continues to sway to the rhythm of the finest works in the repertoire.

It is till the home of the École Normale de Musique de Paris, which continues to train talented young musicians. The Salle Cortot is therefore a place where music is passed on and shared, and where the passion for music is perpetuated.
