Highlights: Ulysse at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées

As Paris dons its golden autumn colours, painting the city with falling leaves, it simultaneously sets the stage for incredible dance performances! Ulysse, presented from 9th to 12th October 2025 at the Théâtre du Rond-Point, is a striking example. This bold reinterpretation of Homer's myth brings together two major figures of contemporary French dance: Josette Baïz and Jean-Claude Gallotta.

Thirty years after its creation, Ulysse is reinvented in a vibrant version, performed by young dancers from the Grenade company. Through this choreographic odyssey, the two choreographers explore themes of wandering, identity, and metamorphosis. The Greek hero here serves as a pretext to question our own journeys, our losses, and our desires for elsewhere.

On stage, the passion of the dancers, the richness of styles — from hip-hop to contemporary dance — and the evocative power of the images form a moving, organic fresco, deeply relevant today. Gallotta injects his taste for the purified gesture and irony; Baïz, her tribal energy and sensitivity to the collective.

Between memory and modernity, Ulysse speaks to both dance enthusiasts and fans of universal stories. A sensory and generous journey, both a tribute and a passing of the torch, inviting each person to rediscover the thread of their own inner journey.

History and Fun Facts about Théâtre du Rond-Point

If you ever want to feel the pulse of the French theatre scene, the Théâtre du Rond-Point is the place to be! But which roundabout or "rond-point" is it exactly? It's one of the most famous roundabouts in Paris, located near the Champs-Elysées, smaller than the famous Etoile roundabout under the Arc de Triomphe. Since 1981, it has attracted a host of directors from all over the world and a host of people with a passion for theatre. A major venue for contemporary creation since 1991, the Rond-Point does not programme "what people like, but what they don't yet know they like", according to Jean-Michel Ribes, the theatre's former director. Since 2023, Laurence de Magalhaes and Stéphane Ricordel have taken over the reins of this theatre, which is still rooted in contemporary creation and focuses on living authors.
