Story: Under the flowers by Thomas Lebrun

Thomas Lebrun is a contemporary choreographer who has given free rein to his creativity and explored the infinite possibilities of dance since the late 1990s. His show, Sous les fleurs (Under the Flowers), takes us to Southern Mexico to discover the Muxes. These people were born men but live as women and are accepted by their community. They are notably recognisable by the colourful clothes they wear.

The piece, performed by five male dancers who subtly express their inner femininity, offers a dance that is genderless and constantly evolving. The dancers' movements reflect the singularity of each body through a variety of music, particularly Mexican.

Thomas Lebrun is a true explorer of contemporary dance, and his show Sous les fleurs, presented on the stage of the Chaillot National Dance Theatre, is a captivating and emotionally rich experience. He shows us that femininity can be expressed in different ways, without being linked to sexuality. An invitation to reflect on the diversity and singularity of each individual.

In the Palais’ left wing is the current Théâtre national de la Danse, which offers two delightful halls including the Salle Jean Vilar, which can hold 1,200 people and is currently being renovated. It will re-open in September 2026. The other, called the Salle Firmin Gémier, seats 390 spectators. The two halls are accessed by an impressive and majestic staircase leading to the colonnaded foyer.

At the staircase’s cusp, a splendid surprise. The Grand Foyer boasts enormous glass walls that offer a panoramic view of Paris’ iconic Eiffel Tower, as surrounded by the Trocadéro gardens and sublime fountains, not to mention the École Militaire. It’s a truly breathtaking view, the depth of which is rivalled only by that of the building’s long and storied history.

The Palais de Chaillot was built on the Chaillot hill for the Universal Exhibition. Originally devoted to the art of dance, it later became a multidisciplinary venue dedicated to hosting theatre, dance, and musical performances.
