Story: Working Stuff Out by Sebastian Marx

What? You haven’t heard of Sebastian Marx yet?

The New York-born comedian, now based in Paris, is performing his new show, Working Stuff Out. In this English stand-up show, he shares—with wit and self-deprecation—his daily life as an expat, delving into the challenges of cultural and linguistic integration in France.

His style, influenced by the likes of Louis C.K. and Jerry Seinfeld, blends sharp observations with personal anecdotes. It’s a hilarious dive into the whirlpool of Franco-American cultural differences. His writing is clear and sharp, packing punch after punch whilst keeping the show accessible and easy to follow for a wider audience.

La Nouvelle Seine, the renowned river boat-theatre moored beneath the towers of Notre-Dame, invites you into it’s cosy and intimate atmosphere. An ideal setting for stand-up: Marx doesn’t shy away from improvisation or audience banter.

Working Stuff Out finds the funny side of cultural misunderstandings while celebrating the richness of cross-cultural exchange. A truly enjoyable experience—clever, authentic, and full of laughs.

History and Fun Facts about La Nouvelle Seine

A few years ago, a diverse team composed of individuals from varied backgrounds came together to set up a unique project in France’s capital: a floating theatre. Their dream was realized with the advent of La Nouvelle Seine, a whimsical performance hall on a barge, anchored in the shadow of the ornate Notre-Dame, and afloat the scenic banks of the Seine! Theatre, restaurant, and bar, this multi-faceted venue is dedicated to discovery and innovation, whether it be artistic or culinary. The name itself is a clever play on words, La Nouvelle Seine, literally meaning ‘The New Seine’, sounds phonetically the same as ‘La Nouvelle Scène’, meaning ‘The New Stage’! This linguistic lyricism is the kind of artistic whimsy that you can expect to find within the walls of this unconventional venue, wherein cabaret and comedy shows alike perform. Here, the new talents on the Parisian theatre scene rub shoulders with the capital’s freshest faces in cuisine.

From March 2023, La Nouvelle Seine will open its doors to young culinary talents and welcome them as guest chefs. Each month, discover each individual’s creativity as they take over the kitchen and express his or her characteristic know-how!
As the restaurant and bar proposes an ever-evolving and changing menu of home-made, meticulously prepared fishes, the stage will be constantly occupied by a rolling list of new artists and performers.

There is no limit to what you may find at La Nouvelle seine - whether you’re in search of stand-up, a one-man-show, or a cabaret performance, La Nouvelle Seine is an incomparable beacon of talent and an inspiring place of creation.
Enjoy your meal, enjoy the show, and all aboard!
