Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin
Since its inauguration in October 1781, the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin has been one of the most popular names on the French theatre scene and remains one of the largest venues in the Paris theatre district. Closed for a period by emperial decree and even converted to be used for political assemblees, we're happy it has since found its original purpose as a grand performance hall.
The biggest and most well-known authors and actors have shared their talent with audiences here: Alexandre Dumas, Victor Hugo, Mélingue, Coquelin, Sarah Bernhardt, Louis de Funès, etc. Some of the most renowned and celebrated plays performed on its stage include : Cyrano de Bergerac, Les Misérables, Chanteclerc, la Cage aux Folles with Christian Clavier and Didier Bourdon, Le Malade Imaginaire with Michel Bouquet, and more recently Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme with François Morel!
Jean Robert-Charrier (director) has maintained the Théâtre de la Porte Saint-Martin’s place at the centre of Parisian cultural activity, in a testament to his passion for true creativity and eclecticism. The theatre’s rich and diverse performance programme, both accessible and refined, allows anyone and everyone to have a great Parisian experience at the theatre.
