Story: In Extenso, Danses en Nouvelles... by Hervé Robbe
Hervé Robbe, who began his career as a choreographer in the 1980s, is constantly on the lookout for new possibilities in the composition of movement. Keen to create original formats for presenting his works and engaging in novel interactions, since 2018 he has been running the “In Extenso, Danses en Nouvelles...” project, which consists of an eclectic series of “choreographic missives” addressed to the public. The episodes in this cycle can be discovered in different combinations.
The programme presented at the Chaillot National Dance Theatre brings together three square-root pieces.
Danse de 4, set to music by Charles Ives and Jérôme Combier, propels a mixed quartet into a square space, generating a strong, highly ritualised and almost warlike physical expressiveness, influenced in part by krump movements.
Danse de 16 amplifies this energy in an extended, rounded space, where sixteen performers set in motion an unstable community in search of supportive solidarity.
Deers, the most recent creation, focuses on a duo whose strange bonds reveal themselves amid ghostly presences.
