All Year Round!
I Love Paris, you love Paris, we all love Paris!
This Musical Monday we are, as usual, in love with the City of Lights, and celebrating with the song I Love Paris written by Cole Porter in 1953.
An adaptation of the song was part of the musical Can-Can's repertoire. Can-Can was originally written as a book by Abe Burrows, and tells the story of the lives of several showgirls in the 1890s in the area of Montmartre in Paris. (Near the Moulin Rouge!) It starred the talented Michael Kidd, and Gwen Verdon in her second Broadway role. Both entertainers won Tony Awards for their fantastic performances. Later, it toured London's West End! The musical was adapted into a film with Shirley MacLaine, Frank Sinatra, and Louis Jordan, which also featured a version of the famous song by Cole Porter. Listen to Ella Fitzgerald singing her own adaptation of it here, and if you're not lucky enough to be in Paris like we are, just let the music take you away on this musical Monday...
