At the Théâtre du Rond-Point, Cape Verdean choreographer Marlene Monteiro Freitas takes us on an exploration of evil in all its forms in her creation Mal - Embriaguez Divina (otherwise known as Evil - Divine Intoxication).

Combining grotesque figures from the carnivals of her childhood with an ultra-innovative staging, she highlights the many facets of evil, whether moral, religious or political. Nine dancers, with their grimacing faces, vividly bring to life the sinister hallucinations and toxic testimonies evoked by the choreographer. A surprising piece that blends humour, and poetry.

Marlene Monteiro Freitas, a choreographer both generous and minimalist as well as baroque and contemporary, presents us her artistic universe full of contrast in Mal - Embriaguez Divina.

On stage at the Théâtre du Rond-Point, this show is a testament to the extent of her talent. Her artistic universe mixes mythology and pop culture, making it ideal for exploring the various manifestations of evil, such as pain, torment, malice, grief and illness. She displaces these forms in her own universe, creating a work that leaves no space uncoloured. The nine dancers reveal man's timeless fascination with evil, from the most sinister to the most subtle.

If you ever want to feel the pulse of the French theatre scene, the Théâtre du Rond-Point is the place to be! But which roundabout or "rond-point" is it exactly? It's one of the most famous roundabouts in Paris, located near the Champs-Elysées, smaller than the famous Etoile roundabout under the Arc de Triomphe. Since 1981, it has attracted a host of directors from all over the world and a host of people with a passion for theatre. A major venue for contemporary creation since 1991, the Rond-Point does not programme "what people like, but what they don't yet know they like", according to Jean-Michel Ribes, the theatre's former director. Since 2023, Laurence de Magalhaes and Stéphane Ricordel have taken over the reins of this theatre, which is still rooted in contemporary creation and focuses on living authors.
