Story: Expat Night - I Love Piaf

I Love Piaf, performed in theatres all over Paris, is a musical about France’s most famous international superstar, Edith Piaf.

This intimate musical tells the short, yet intense life story of a woman with a girlish spirit. Piaf’s career began in the heart of Paris, in the outrageous cabarets of Pigalle, where she performed for mobsters and gangsters. Her fame then skyrocketed from Belleville to the Champs-Elysées and she eventually made history in the grandest music halls in the world.

From Shanghai to New York, Moscow to London, and even Montreal to Berlin, people of all ages and nationalities can sing along to the timeless classics, La Vie En Rose, L’Hymne à l’Amour, Milord, and Je Ne Regrette Rien.

Théâtre Trévise

Tucked into a late 19th century building, this cosy and unpretentious playhouse has been classified as a historical monument since 1994. Believe it or not, the Théâtre Trévise has been sharing a building with the French office of the YMCA since its creation. It’s here, in the same YMCA gymnasium, that the first European basketball match was played in 1893! This event took place only one year after the first basketball match ever was played in the US, and they had to bring all the equipment from America in order to recreate a perfect copy of the original court right here in Paris. There is a court in the basement of the building to this day.

As far as the theatre venue is concerned, the Trévise takes pride in making us laugh. Although well-known French comedians made their names there – for example Jamel Debbouze, who is one of the most prominent French humorists - the stage of the Théâtre Trévise remains open to young talent of all forms, helping Paris to discover new talent. The theatre’s programme is not exclusively geared towards comedy. It often seeks to surprise us, providing a platform for new and experimental pieces as well as a commitment to musical numbers. Just steps away from the bustling Grands Boulevards district, the Théâtre Trévise is the perfect neighborhood venue to experience Paris like a local.
